Software Guidelines
The DO-178 provides guidance for determining, in a consistent manner and with an acceptable level of confidence, that the software aspects of airborne systems and equipment comply with airworthiness requirements. The DO-178 is the primary document by which the certification authorities such as FAA, EASA and Transport Canada approve all commercial software-based aerospace systems.
Hardware Guidelines
The DO-254 is intended to help aircraft manufacturers and the suppliers of aircraft electronic systems assure that electronic airborne equipment safely performs its intended function. The document identifies design life cycle processes for hardware that includes line replaceable units, circuit board assemblies, application specific integrated circuits (ASICs), programmable logic devices, etc.
System Guidelines
The ARP-4754 provides recommendations for the development of aircraft and systems, taking into account aircraft functions and operating environment. It provides practices for ensuring the safety of the overall aircraft design, showing compliance with regulations, and assisting a company in developing and meeting its own internal standards.
Safety Guidelines
The ARP-4761A presents guidelines for performing safety assessments of civil aircraft, systems, and equipment. They may be used when addressing compliance with certification requirements (e.g., 14 CFR/CS Parts 23, 25, 27, and 29 and 14 CFR Parts 33, 35, CS-E, and CS-P). ARP4761A may also be used to assist a company in meeting its own internal safety assessment standards.
